Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Yubelkis lives with her parents and two siblings, Cindy and Oben. The family rents a one room home. Her father works as a farmer to try to provide for the family's basic needs. Occasionally, he will find additional work cleaning up construction sites. To help sustain the family, her mother works on the cherry plantation when work is available. Yubelkis attends public school, and her favorite subject is mathematics. In her free time, Yubelkis enjoys hanging out with her friends. She would like to become a doctor in the future.
