Yesica lives in Batey Lecheria, a village on the outskirts of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lecheria are Haitian. Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Yesica's father is a farmer, however, his meager wages are not enough to adequately provide for his family. Her mother is also having difficulty finding work. Yesica attends public school, and her favorite subject is language arts. Her favorite color is blue, and in her free time, she enjoys playing with her friends. She would like to become a doctor in the future.
