Yavela is a quiet boy who lives with his great-aunt in the village of Qanda. He was raised by his paternal grandmother until she died in 2017. His mother's whereabouts are unknown. Yavela enjoys being with his cousins and friends. They play soccer most of the time. He says that his family is very large, but many people have died in his family since 2017. He likes his community even though they do not like soccer. Most people in his community like rugby and cricket instead. Yavela lives at Intlantsi Christian School in Fort White, South Africa during the week and goes home to his village on the weekend.
