Winifer lives in Batey Lecheria in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lecheria are Haitian. Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Winifer lives with her mother and grandfather. Her father abandoned the family when Winifer was only four years old. Her mother is having trouble finding work, therefore, Winifer's basic needs are not being met. Winifer attends the public school, and math is her favorite subject. In her free time, she enjoys playing with her friends. Her favorite color is pink, and she would like to become a teacher in the future.
