Wilmer lives in Batey Lecheria in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lecheria are Haitian. Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Wilmer lives with his parents and two siblings, Andy and Carlos. His family lives in a one room home that they rent. Wilmer's father works cleaning up construction sites when the work is available. Wilmer's mom cleans homes in the city to help provide for the basic needs of the family. Wilmer attends the public school, and his favorite subject is mathematics. In his free time, Wilmer enjoys playing soccer. He hopes to become a teacher someday.
