Wariany lives with her mom, grandma, and siblings, Jandry, and Wilkin, in Batey Lacheria in the Dominican Republic. Lecheria is a predominantly Haitian village. Like many villages in the Dominican Republic, people often settle and build makeshift homes on land they do not own. Wariany's dad abandoned the family many years ago. Wariany's mom works as housekeeper, but her income cannot adequately provide for their family. Wariany currently attends public school, and math is her favorite subject. She enjoys playing soccer and hanging out with her friends. Wariany's favorite color is red, and she hopes to become a teacher one day.
