Veronica lives in Batey Lecheria in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lecheria are Haitian. Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. When Veronica was five, her father abandoned the family. Now, she lives with her mother and two siblings, Chiro and Dolvin. Her mother is a housekeeper, though her income cannot adequately provide for all of her children. Veronica attends public school, and her favorite subject is language arts. She enjoys playing with her friends, and her favorite color is pink. Veronica wants to become a teacher in the future.
