Valentin attends public school. He likes math, and his favorite color is blue. Valentin's favorite sport is football (soccer). He wants to become a police officer in the future. Valentin lives with his parents and siblings, Maibelson and Brailin. Valentin's mom is having trouble finding work, and his dad works as a mechanic in the village. Valentin lives in Batey Lecheria, a village on the outskirts of Santo Domingo, located in the area of Los Alcarrizos. Villages are generally divided into "Dominican" villages or "Haitian" villages. Batey Lecheria is a predominantly Haitian village. Like many villages in the Dominican Republic, people often settle and build makeshift homes on land they do not own. Wealthy landowners will many times come and tear down homes for no apparent reason, other than as a reminder to the settlers that they do not own the land.
