Simoda lives in Batey Lecheria in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lecheria are Haitian. Simoda lives with both parents and even among the poverty stricken village, they are among those in the deepest of poverty. Simoda is one five siblings, Winifer, Marolyn, Sima, and Elizabeth. Her father consistently is looking for farming work to provide for the whole family, unfortunately, work is not always available. Simoda speaks Spanish and some Creole. She attends public school that is two miles from her village. Her favorite subject is Languages. In addition to playing with her dolls, Simoda likes to play volleyball. Her favorite color is yellow, and in the future she would like to become a teacher.
