Samantha Duran lives with her parents and sisters in the village of Batey Lecheria in the Dominican Republic. Lecheria is a predominantly Haitian village. Like many villages in the Dominican Republic, people often settle and build makeshift homes on land they do not own. Samantha's father works as a carpenter, but her mother has had difficulty finding work. Her father's income cannot adequately provide for their family. Samantha currently attends public school, and her favorite subject is math. In her free time, she enjoys playing volleyball and hanging out with her friends. Her favorite color is red, and she hopes to become a nurse one day.
