Paul lives with his mother and three siblings. Paul’s father abandoned the family when Paul was four years old. His mother is a small business trader.  His mother cannot sufficiently provide for her family’s basic needs and school costs. She raises enough money to enroll him in school each year thanks to the government’s free education initiative, however, public schools have fees the government does not cover. When those fees are due, Paul's mother cannot pay them, and Paul is sent home. This causes lapses in his education. But since his he was sponsored, he has been able to continue his education and his favorite subject is math. He enjoys washing dishes at home and wants to be a soldier when he grows up.
