Paola lives in Batey Lecheria in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lecheria are Haitian. Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Paola lives with her stepfather, mother and three siblings. Her father works as a farmer to try to provide for the basic needs of his family, however, the wages for working in farming are very little. Paola's mother sells groceries in the village to help sustain the family. Paola attends the public school, and her favorite class is mathematics. In her free time, Paola enjoys hanging out with her friends and running. She would like to become a doctor in the future.
