Osman was born in 2007. His mother does not know the exact date of his birth so we celebrate his birthday on January 1st. Osman's father is a woodcutter. Polygamy is not uncommon in Sierra Leone so his father has two wives. On a daily basis, the family enters the Tombo Forest to cut down trees and fetch other wood. They then transport the wood on their backs or heads to sell it in the Tombo community. The family then walks miles away to neighboring villages to sell the remaining wood. Wood selling is a low-income-earning job, so his parents cannot sufficiently support the family. Osman goes out into the Tombo Forest on his own to gather and transport his own wood for selling so he can buy food to eat. Osman would like to be a doctor in the future.
