Obai lives with his grandmother, a fish trader. Obai 's mother died during the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone. His dad moved to the interior of the country and is believed to be without work. Now being considered elderly, his grandmother can no longer work to provide food and other basic needs. While Obai currently lives with his grandmother, at some point, his situation will compel him to move out and find work packing or organizing fish for local fishermen. Many children also fall into gambling in hopes of making money to buy food. Obai was attending school, but was forced to quit in Class V due to lack of funds to pay for school tuition, uniforms, school supplies and other school fees. His desire is to return to school if he has the opportunity. Obai would like to be a teacher in the future.
