Naika was born in 2012 and lives in Batey Lecheria, a village on the outskirts of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lecheria are Haitian. Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Naika lives with her mom and her two little sisters. Her dad passed away in 2018 as a result of a work related accident. Her mom does not work so her uncles provide for the family. Naika attends public school where her favorite subject is reading. In her free time, she loves playing with her friends. Naika's favorite color is pink, and she hopes to become a teacher one day.
