Mustapha lives with his grandmother who has raised him from birth. Mustapha's mother eloped with a worker of the African Mineral Company based in Lunsar in northern Sierra Leone. His father passed away shortly after his birth. His grandmother relies on family members and neighbors for survival. Mustapha is commonly seen around restaurants helping with work in exchange for leftover food from customers. Mustaphas grandmother believes that her daughter (Mustaphas mother) is dead because she has made several visits to the mining site but there has been no news to help locate her. It has been six years since she eloped. Mustapha was able to continue his education once he was sponsored. He enjoys playing soccer and wants to be a pastor one day.
