Mohamed was born in 2005. His mother does not know the exact date of his birth so we celebrate his birthday on January 1st. Mohamed lives in the very poor fishing village of Tombo. Tombo is located on the western coastline and is a major hub for fish trade and transport.The town is known for its deeply religious Islamic faith. Because of the poor conditions and the bodies of water that surround Tombo, diseases such as Malaria, Typhoid and Cholera run rampant. Mohamed lives with his mother. His mother has physical disabilities but is still able to work selling cold water. Mohamed's father abandoned them when Mohamed was about five years old. His mother's business of selling water cannot sufficiently provide for him. Realizing his mother cannot provide for him, Mohamed helps people carry their loads to the park or market on a commercial basis. Gambling runs rampant in the Tombo community so Mohamed will often use the small amount of funds he makes to gamble in hopes of making more money. Mohamed was forced to stop school in Class V due to a lack of funds to pay for school tuition, a uniform, school supplies, and other school fees. Mohamed's desire is to return to school if given the opportunity. He would like to be the president of Sierra Leone one day.
