Mauricio was born in 2009 and lives in Batey Lecheria in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lecheria are Haitian. Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Mauricio lives with both parents and a younger brother in a very humble house. Mauricio's dad works as a security guard to try to provide for the family. However, his income is simply not enough to adequately meet his family's basic needs. Mauricio attends public school, and his favorite subject is math. In his free time, he enjoys playing soccer.  His favorite color is blue, and he would like to become an engineer and a soccer player in the future.
