Marcelo lives with his mother, stepfather, and two siblings, Justin and Lucia in the village of Batey Lecheria. Lecheria is a predominantly Haitian village. Marcelo's dad abandoned the family in 2018. His mother does not work because she must care for his younger siblings. Marcelo's stepfather spends his days looking in the trash for recycling materials that he can sell. He does not earn enough to adequately provide for his family. Marcelo attends public school, and his favorite subject is math. His favorite color is white, and he loves playing baseball. Marcelo wants to become a professional baseball player one day.
