Luisaura lives with both parents and her two older brothers, Juan Manuel and Benjamin. Luisaura's mom has had trouble finding work, and her dad recently lost his job. She attends public school and likes math. Luisaura's favorite color is purple, and her favorite sport is volleyball. Luisaura wants to become a doctor in the future. Luisaura lives in Villa Laura, a village on the outskirts of Santo Domingo, located in the area of Los Alcarrizos. Villages are generally divided into "Dominican" villages or "Haitian" villages. Villa Laura is a predominantly Dominican village. Like many villages in the Dominican Republic, people often settle and build makeshift homes on land they do not own. Wealthy landowners will many times come and tear down homes for no apparent reason, other than as a reminder to the settlers that they do not own the land.
