Lucero lives in Batey Lechera in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lechera are Haitian. Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Lucero lives with both parents and her 4 year old brother. Her mother is a seamstress in the community, and her father works construction occasionally. Still, they make so little, they are not able to adequately provide for their children. Lucero attends public school, and her favorite subject is reading. In addition to playing with her kitchen set, Lucero enjoys football. Her favorite color is pink, and she hopes to become a doctor in the future.
