Karen was born in 2012 and lives in Batey Lecheria in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lecheria are Haitian. Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Karen lives with her mom and is an only child. Her dad abandoned them when Karen was born. Her mom sells fruit for a living, but she does not earn enough funds even to sustain just the two of them. Karen attends public school and loves to write. In her free time, she enjoys playing with her friends. Karen's favorite color is purple, and she would like to be a teacher in future.
