Jose lives in Batey Lecheria, a village on the outskirts of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lecheria are Haitian. Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Jose lives with his parents and three younger siblings; Gorie, Esteban, and Maria. Both of Jose's parents are struggling to find work and provide for the family. Jose attends school, and his favorite subject is math. In his free time, Jose enjoys playing soccer. His favorite color is orange, and he would like to become a doctor in the future.
