Ishmael's father passed away when he was in class four. Since that time, his mother has been struggling with Ishmael and his four siblings. His mother sells food items at the Tombo Park Market to try to sustain the family. She also hopes to make enough money to send all five kids to school. Ishmael's mother has requested assistance from extended family members but the support is sporadic. Since Ishmael is among the oldest of the five, he dropped out of school to work and help his mother with the cost of sending his four siblings to school. Since being sponsored, he has been able to go to school and receive his education. He would like to be a soldier one day.
