Francis lives in Batey Lecheria in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lecheria are Haitian. Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. When Francis was a young child, his father abandoned the family. Today, he lives with his mother, stepfather, and two siblings, Jean Carol and Minerva. His mother collects cherries for a living, but her income cannot adequately provide for all of her children. Francis attends public school, and his favorite subject is language arts. He loves baseball, and his favorite color is white. Francis wants to become a professional baseball player in the future.
