Esther lives in Batey Lecheria, a village on the outskirts of Santo Domingo located in the area of Los Alcarrizos. Villages are generally divided into Dominican villages or Haitian villages. Lecheria is a predominantly Haitian village. Like many villages in the Dominican Republic, people often settle and build makeshift homes on land they do not own. Esther lives with her grandmother. Her mom lives in another city and only comes to visit Esther occasionally. Esther attends public school, and her favorite subject is math. In her free time, Esther likes to play baseball and hang out with her friends. Esther's favorite color is pink, and she wants to become a teacher in the future.
