Ericka lives in Batey Lecheria in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lecheria are Haitian. Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Ericka lives with her stepfather, mother and three siblings. Her stepfather works as a farmer to try to provide for the basic needs of his family, however, the wages for working in farming are very little. Ericka's mother sells groceries in the village to help sustain the family. Ericka attends the public school, and her favorite subject is Languages. In her free time, Ericka enjoys playing with her friends. She would like to become a teacher in the future.
