Edwitna lives in Batey Lechera in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lechera are Haitian. Edwitna's dad passed away so she lives with her mom and three siblings. Edwitna's mom is sick and works at a cherry plantation, when her health allows it, to try and provide for her family. Edwitna speaks Creole and Spanish. She attends the public school that is two miles from her village. Her favorite subject is literature. In her free time, Edwitna likes to hang out with her friends. She would like to become a doctor in the future.
