Dawensi was born in 2011 and lives in Batey Lecheria in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lecheria are Haitian. Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Dawensi lives with both of his parents and siblings. Dawensi's father works in a plastic recycling company near their village but does not make enough to adequately provide for his family's basic needs. Dawensi's mother works in the home. The family pays rent on a humble house made of wood. Dawensi attends the public school, and his favorite subject is literature. He loves the color red and enjoys playing soccer with his friends.  Dawensi hopes to be an ambulance driver in the future.
