Darianny lives in Batey Lechera in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lechera are Haitian. Darianny lives with her mother and four siblings. She also has three older siblings who live on their own. Darianny's father abandoned the family. Her mother was working in a library as the cleaning lady but is not currently employed. Darianny's mother is desperately searching for work. Darianny speaks Spanish and Creole. She attends the public school that is two miles from their village. She is in the 1st grade and her favorite subject is math. During her free time, Darianny likes to play with a kitchen set. Darianny wants to become a doctor in the future.
