Anyelica lives in Batey Lecheria, a village on the outskirts of Santo Domingo located in the area of Los Alcarrizos. Villages are generally divided into Dominican villages or Haitian villages. Lecheria is a predominantly Haitian village. Like many villages in the Dominican Republic, people often settle and build makeshift homes on land they do not own. Anyelica lives with her grandma and mom. Her dad remains in Haiti. Anyelica's mom sells fruit on the street for a living. Anyelica attends public school and likes to write and draw. Anyelica's favorite color is red. She likes to play volleyball, and she wants to become a doctor in the future.
