Alpha lives with his mother and 3 siblings. His father abandoned the family, and his mother cannot support them all. Alpha decided to help his neighbors by selling fish and baked goods in exchange for food or money. Alpha has been in and out of school since his father left. His mother was able to enroll him in school in 2021, but he has been asked out every time tuition is due. Alpha wants to be able to attend school consistently. His favorite subject has been math, and he wants to be a lawyer one day. Alpha lives in the very poor fishing village of Tombo. Tombo is located on the western coastline of Sierra Leone and is a major hub for fish trade and transport. The town is known for its deeply religious Islamic faith. Because of the poor conditions and the bodies of water that surround Tombo, diseases such as Malaria, Typhoid and Cholera run rampant.
