Alhassan lives with both parents. His father grinds fish and pepper in the market and his mother sells plastic bags. With their combined meager wages, they try to provide for the family. There are three children in the family and Alhassan is the youngest. Because they do not have adequate food at home, Alhassan goes out on the street to find odd jobs to help his family survive. Alhassan's jobs include foraging for scrap metal and gathering big rocks to sell. He loves to play volleyball and he wants to be a journalist one day.
