Nayeli was born in 2012 and lives in Batey Lecheria in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lecheria are Haitian. Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Nayeli lives with both of her parents and four siblings. Nayeli's dad works by collecting large stones from the river and loading them into big dump trucks. The income for this work is so low that it is very difficult for him to sustain the family. When there is available work, Nayeli's mom works picking cherries. Nayeli attends public school, and her favorite subject is languages. Her favorite color is pink, and she would like to become a teacher in the future.
