Mihle Kate is 13 years old and is from a village called Masingatha in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. His name means “God’s work is beautiful.” He lives with his mom, sister, his mom’s two sisters, and their children. His father passed away, and after his death, his life went downhill. Mihle’s mother lost her job, and they had to move to her childhood home. Mihle misses his family very much during the week when he is away at school. His favorite subject is English, and his favorite sport is rugby. Mihle lives at Intlantsi Christian School in Fort White during the school week.  On the weekends, he goes back to his village, Masingatha, where he lives with his mom.  While Fort White has the most modern amenities available in the area, the surrounding villages are quite different.  In the villages, people collect water from a communal tap and use outhouses.  Though they have access to electricity, most villagers cannot afford to pay for an electric meter. Most of our children have grown up attending no-fee schools, where they are provided what may be their only meal for the day.  Most boys like Mihle do not finish high school.
