Like most girls, Hlumisa loves pink!  She also loves learning English and eating fruit.  When she’s not studying, Hlumisa likes to play netball, a game similar to American basketball.  Hlumisa dreams of becoming a doctor. During the school week, Hlumisa lives at Intlantsi Christian School in Fort White.  On weekends she returns to her village, Ngcamngeni, where she lives with her grandfather.  Fort White has the most modern amenities available in the area.  However, the surrounding villages are quite different.  In most villages, people collect water from a communal tap and use outhouses.  Though they have access to electricity, most villagers cannot afford to pay for an electric meter. Most of our children, like Hlumisa, have grown up attending no-fee schools in their village, where they are provided what may be their only meal of the day.
